Limbs
Recurve limbs
The limbs are the engine of your recurve bow: they store the energy of your draw and release it into the arrow. Together with the riser, the limbs determine the bow length, draw weight and how smooth and stable the bow feels. In this category you will find limbs for beginners, intermediate archers and competitive shooters, for Olympic recurve and barebow alike.
What to look for when choosing limbs:
- Length: short, medium or long. On a 25" riser this gives a 66", 68" or 70" bow; on a 23" riser 2" shorter, on a 27" riser 2" longer. As a rule of thumb: the longer your draw length, the longer the bow.
- Draw weight: stated in pounds (lbs) at a 28" draw length on a 25" riser. Per inch of extra draw you pull roughly 2 lbs more. Beginners usually start light and step up gradually.
- Limb fitting: ILF (International Limb Fitting) fits almost every ILF riser of any brand. Hoyt Formula limbs only fit Formula risers. Entry-level and youth bows often use screw-on (bolt-on) limbs.
- Core material: fibreglass/wood or fibreglass/foam for beginners, carbon/wood, carbon/foam or carbon/bamboo for faster, more stable limbs with less hand shock.
